CORALINE wins 2009 Locus Award

coraline

Craig’s graphic novel adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s CORALINE was awarded Best Non-Fiction/Art Book at a ceremony and banquet June 27, 2009 in Seattle WA during the Science Fiction Awards Weekend. The award was accepted on his behalf by artist Michael Whelan, who also read Craig’s speech:

When I was first informed of my nomination in this category I kept trying to refuse, convinced they had made a mistake and gotten me confused with the animated movie book CORALINE a Visual Companion. Editor Amelia Beamer finally convinced me that it was in fact for the graphic novel adaptation for which I am very grateful. Working with Neil’s original scripts and adapting his novels and short stories for the past 18 years has been a highlight of my career. It’s hard to go wrong when you have the right words to start with. At almost 200 pages CORALINE was a long and time consuming project. That it has been this well received by all of you is deeply gratifying. Thank you for this honor.

DREAM HUNTERS Reviewed

dhreviews

“As the fourth and final issue of The Sandman: The Dream Hunters (Vertigo, $2.99) reminds us, P. Craig Russell ranks among the preeminent comics artists alive today, and he may well rank as the preeminent mainstream artist of his generation. More than three decades after his mid-’70s apprenticeship on Marvel’s Amazing Adventures and other titles, Russell still thrills in the present tale of love and lust, magic and murder, vengeance and epiphany (an adaptation of an illustrated novella by Neil Gaiman and Yoshitaka Amano published in 1999 by DC Comics).”
